Small Fry Tri
Small Fry Tri – Exciting New Course
Saturday, August 1, 2026
Opelika Sportsplex and Aquatics Center
Ages 2-5
About the Race
This year, our Small Fry athletes will complete all three parts of a triathlon on a brand-new course, thoughtfully designed for their age and stage, while giving them a true “big race” experience. This race will still be untimed and just for fun.
Note: Five-year-olds can opt to participate in the Sportsplex Tri for Kids instead of the Small Fry Tri, but they must be able to complete the race independently. For more details about the Sportsplex Tri for Kids, visit the Race Info page on our website: www.sportsplextriforkids.com.
What to Expect on Race Day
- SWIM: Begin with a fun slide into the pool’s splash area.
- BIKE: Ride a bike, trike, scooter, or balance bike (any wheeled device) along our closed, paved, child-friendly course.
- RUN: Complete the final stretch into the same official finish line as our regular triathletes.
Race Day Guidelines
- Helmets must be worn during the ride portion.
- A parent or older sibling will need to assist with shoes, fitting helmets, helping ride their “bike” if needed, and supporting them as they dismount and remove their helmet in the second transition area.
- Every child receives a t-shirt and medal at the finish line.
Note: Five-year-olds can opt to participate in the Sportsplex Tri for Kids instead of the Small Fry Tri, but they must be able to complete the race independently. For more details about the Sportsplex Tri for Kids, visit the Race Info page.
